The New Garden Employee of the Month for March is Janet Morien. Janet started working for New Garden in March 2006. Her first position was in perennials at the Village. She currently works seasonally in the nursery.

Janet earned her Gold Card nomination from Barbara White for her attention to detail in caring for perennials, her reliability, and dedication to our Garden Center. Janet has jumped right in with directing and helping to train new staff. She has been an invaluable help with launching the new team at the Village.

 

February 2016-Garrett Stockdale

Garrett started working for New Garden in July 2014. His first Position was in the Horticulture Department. He currently works for the Garden Enhancement Team.

Garrett just returned from a four week assignment with the Army Reserves. He is helping the Forsyth GET Team while fellow soldier (Dan Armes) is on a sixteen week assignment with the Army Reserves. He is also helping the company by shuttling equipment back and forth to Forsyth for the next several weeks.  This helps to reduce extra trips for equipment maintenance.

 

January 2016-Meda Woods

Meda has been working for us since September 2012, starting out as an assistant display designer. In September of 2014 she became buyer, inside sales manager and head display designer. She took this position over during Christmas season and thanks to her incredible talents and great management skills the transition went flawlessly. Meda has a great attitude and is one of our best in customer service. In a short period she has turned the inside of the Gazebo into a great shopping destination. She gets compliments all the time on the store layout and how fresh the store looks. She continues to be a great asset to our company.

 

December 2015-Evangelito Cruz

Evangelito Cruz is an eleven year New Garden veteran. His career started in the landscape department where he mastered landscape installation, stone work, and equipment skills. A few years ago we offered Evangelito an opportunity to be further trained in our maintenance department. He currently is James Jordan’s right hand man and has mastered equipment use and care, pruning and is extremely detailed oriented. He lives in Summerfield with his wife and three sons. We salute Evangelito Cruz as a great example of an interoperable employee and Employee of the Month.

 

November 2015-Joel Deuterman

Joel has been employed with New Garden for three years now and has shown an incredible interest not only in our company, but in this industry. He started in sales at our Gazebo location and quickly moved to Greenhouse Manager at the Village, and then became Garden Center Manager this past year in which he exceeded all expectations. Because of his hard work and dedication he will soon be managing a new department promoting our services at the Gazebo location.

Joel is about to receive a Degree in Horticulture from Alamance Community College. He recently became a certified Irrigation Technician and is getting his Arborist license. While representing New Garden at PLANET he placed 10th out of 180 competitors and the 4th highest score on his TCIA exam. (Tree Care Industry Association) This nomination could not go to a more deserving person.

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for October is Jim Keen. 

Jim has been part of the New Garden family for 10 years and is a Customer Relations Manager for Guilford North. He is the embodiment of the New Garden motto: with his passion for design he goes out of his way to create a unique and functional space for his client. He establishes a long term relationship that gets them coming back for more.

Jim is helpful to fellow employees when they have questions or needs. He not only designs but gets out in the field to layout, install and even does container gardens for customers with a smile on his face. His behind the scene work for retail events are evidence of his interoperability.

September 2015- Kevin Putnam

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for September is Kevin Putnam. Kevin is a member of Guilford North, joining us February 11, 2013. Starting as a crew member learning how New Garden performed maintenance services, he soon proved to be a capable lead man for his foreman. This summer Kevin was faced with the opportunity to fill in for his foreman for three months. He did much more than just the basics, he worked hard to grow his leadership and organizational skills and provided regular feedback to his manager regarding daily activities, concerns and needs. Kevin enjoyed the growth experience and the responsibility, and this October he will become a foreman managing his own route of clients. We thank Kevin for taking the initiative to grow with us.

August 2015-Cris Landreth

Cris started as a weekend loader at the Gazebo in 2008. He became logistics manager and interim cash manager. He received a degree in Entertainment Technology from GTCC and attended A&T State University. He currently is the Gazebo receiver and receptionist. Cris has many different roles here at New Garden. He helps out in sales when needed and has created many good customer relationships. He backs up LaTosha at the register and helps Jeremy build displays. Cris has a great attitude and helps wherever needed with a smile on his face. 

 

July 2015-Bernardino Reyes

Congratulations Bernardino!

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for July is Bernardino Reyes.  Bernardino started his career at New Garden 20 years ago this December as a landscape crewperson. He is now one of our most versatile employees. Bernardino currently is responsible for one of our most critical jobs – keeping installed annual beds and shrubs watered. Three days a week he fills up the 1200 gallon tank (almost 5 tons) and completes his water route. Bernardino is skilled in all aspects of landscape and irrigation installation and often can be seen filling in on maintenance crews as needed. He always responds positively to everything he is asked to do and truly exemplifies the New Garden Way.

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for June is Wes Angermeier. Wes works as a part of the perennials, trees and shrubs team at the Village retail location. 

Wes is able to work with not only the staff, but customers on a daily basis. He is friendly, hard-working and has a good attention to detail. He greets each customer with a smile on his face and has customers walking away with a smile on theirs! In addition Wes strives to gain a better understanding of the industry by asking questions. Wes uses the knowledge of different plants and products available in the store to better serve customers.

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for May is Dean Gardiner. Dean is a CRM for Guilford North  and has worked for us 13 years.

In May Dean demonstrated what customer service and being a true team player is all about. He achieved this by recognizing the need for additional help and clearing days in his busy schedule to start up irrigation systems not only for his clients but for many other clients as well. He also took the time to teach others how to start up systems.  Dean’s willingness to step up and help out kept many New Garden customers very satisfied with our services.  Thank you Dean for being a great example of “The New Garden Way”.

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for April is Ryan Hilton. Ryan is a member of the Forsyth Team and has worked at New Garden for two years. Ryan runs the Maintenance Enhancement Team; he handles our planting jobs and any pruning and "Get Wells" that are needed.

What makes Ryan stand out for April is the fact that during this time of need for a foreman on one of our maintenance crews Ryan has stepped up and taken over that maintenance route without any hesitation.

March 2015-Betsy Perry

Betsy is the buyer for hardgoods, chemicals, fertilizers, soils, and grass seed for both retail stores. During the Christmas season she is the poinsettia buyer. She started working for New Garden Gazebo in 1988 when the store was still located on Battleground Ave. She describes herself as a jack-of-all–trades at the Gazebo—she is knowledgeable about products and plants. Betsy always goes above and beyond for not only customers, but employees as well. She is very patient, knowledgeable, and willing to listen.

Betsy always goes out of her way to find the answers to customers questions. During March questions are all about grass seed, fertilizing, and of course how to avoid weeds. Betsy advocates our natural products when possible.

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for February is Kathy Alford. Kathy is our Payroll Administrator. 

Kathy started working for New Garden in Human Resources nine years ago. All of us  have had questions she has helped to answer. No matter how busy she is she will take the time to help with any concerns you may have. If she is unable to answer your question she takes it upon herself to help to the greatest extent possible for you, and most importantly with a smile.

February has been a challenging month with winter weather. A great example of  her help is that Kathy came in when it was snowing Tuesday to meet deadlines and transmit payroll.

We, as employees, are her clients. She treats all of us the same as our New Garden Way states; she has built long term relationships that result in success for us and New Garden Landscaping.

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for January is Jeremy Warren. 

Jeremy is an incredible person, personally and professionally. As a manager, Jeremy is a great teacher and mentor for the staff at both retail locations. He is respected by fellow employees, customers and plant lovers throughout the area, especially in the permaculture and farming community. His knowledge is broad from specific plants to soils, landscaping, and farming. In addition to his daily responsibilities as a manager he also directs and runs our Meet Your Local Farmer Program.

Beekeeping is one of his passions; in January he has researched and will soon be installing a working beehive at the Gazebo to bring bees back to the garden. Jeremy enjoys spending time with his wife Stesha, son Isaiah, and daughter Aala.    

December 2014-David Pearson

David has been a part of New Garden’s team for three years. He is a CRM currently responsible for managing our Wellspring Retirement Community contract along with a large residential estate.

David was accustomed to handling challenging projects as he came to us after many years of running a successful tree trimming service. Wanting to keep his feet firmly on the ground vs. dangling from trees New Garden offered a safer alternative where he could still apply his horticultural skills.

David and his wife Melissa have a 10 year old son and a 7 year old daughter and live in the Summerfield area. We are grateful to have David on our team utilizing his vast experience, leadership skills, equipment and horticultural skills, and he is driven to deliver superior quality service to his clients.  

November 2014-Antonio Ferman

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for November is Antonio Ferman. 

Antonio has been a part of New Garden’s team for over 9 years. He has worked with larger planting/hardscaping projects as a part of our Landscaping team, mastered flower installation within our color program and for the last few years he has been an integral part of his landscape maintenance team. In this team member role, he helps to provide an impressive level of detail with the upkeep of turf and horticultural maintenance for primarily residential clients. These clients also happen to be some of our most demanding with real showcase properties. Their positive feedback shows they appreciate the well groomed appearance that comes with his trained eye for detail. Thank you Antonio for your diligence providing high quality results for our clients.  

 

October 2014-Lois Aker

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for October is Lois Aker. Lois is overwhelmed and appreciative of the recognition.

Lois started her almost twenty year career at New Garden when the Village store was located in the farmhouse on Old Oak Ridge Road. She started as the receptionist and switchboard operator and has added payroll and data entry, customer maintenance, mailing statements, and calling utility locates to her repertoire. Lois will provide any administrative assistance she is asked to do.

She previously worked for the public schools, the hospital X-ray department, and as an optometric assistant. Lois enjoys spending time with her two children and three grandchildren.

 

September 2014-Jose Mauricio Cruz

Jose is a 12 year veteran who started his career in the Landscape department.  He is accomplished in stone & patio masonry, landscape installation, equipment operation, and irrigation installation. When the great recession hit and landscape work slowed down we offered Jose a chance to learn a new skill set by joining a maintenance crew. It was a homerun for the team as Jose quickly mastered equipment and horticultural skills necessary to guarantee the quality our customer’s expect.

Jose is a dedicated family man with a beautiful wife and 3 children, 1 boy and 2 girls. If we were to define interoperability look no further than the success and skills that Jose brings to our New Garden Family every day.

 

August 2014-Brantley Mayhew

New Garden’s Employee of the Month for August is Brantley Mayhew. He is a Foreman for Landscape Maintenance at New Garden's Winston-Salem location.

Brantley has been a member of the Forsyth team since 2005 and is a graduate of North Carolina State. He maintains and manages many of our residential properties in Winston Salem. He has taken on the responsibility of training another of our residential foreman which has allowed us to expand and better serve our clients in the Winston market. Many accolades have been received from his clients, commenting on the great quality of work he and his team have performed. Brantley is a great asset to New Garden.
